We had such a fun Friday morning when I decided to do some mental maths outside. I sneaked out of the morning assembly early and got changed into my Jedi outfit. I sat with my legs cross in the middle of the room with the Star Wars theme in the background and the kids were very excited!
“Who wants to train to be a jedi?” I asked. Guess what? They couldn’t wait to get outside…
Inspired by @Change4life NHS initiative to get more children physically active using Star Wars I was going to treat my kids and give it a go! The first game was similar to ‘splat’ where you stand in a circle and point at a person who ducks and the people next to each other are to quickly answer and shoot the person opposite. This take on ‘splat’ was show to me at Teach Meet East Midlands #TMEM in June by @Tagtiv8.
A take on a popular playground game called ‘Chaos Tag’. Instead of rock, paper, scissors the kids had to ask each other a times table. If they got it wrong or didn’t answer in 5 seconds they were out!
I called this game ‘Force Fields’. The children formed two lines. Girls on one side and boys on the other. Then the boys would start by stretching out their hand and saying a times table like “3×4!” then then would count down from 5 seconds. If they go the answer wrong or not within 5 seconds they had to run to the fence and back!
It was a great session and combined physical with mental agility! One for the kids to remember
